Dusty and the Big Bad World will be presented in the Black Box Theater from March 7-10 for an exciting and challenging evening.
This show gives an informed and humorous look at current issues. It is based on true events revolving the television show, “Postcards from Buster” produced by the Public Broadcasting Service.
The play looks at topics like PBS, government bias, gay marriage, privacy rights and the struggles of children’s allergies.
Directed by School of Theatre faculty member, Dr. Amy Osatinski, Dusty and the Big Bad World is an evening of laughter, reflection and even a touch of discomfort as it helps us understand the challenges of living in an ignorant world.
The story follows Jessica and Nathan, producers of one of the most famous animated TV series, as they select a family to be featured on their show. Young Lizzie Goldberg-Jones and their fathers are selected as the model family to be aired.
Secretary of Education, Marianne, enforces her authority to prevent the episode from airing fearing the influence it will have on children.
The act of prejudice is fought by the producers and Marianne’s secretary in the plot of this incredible production.
The show invites viewers to laugh and consider the absurdities of modern society with its unique mix of comedy and interesting remarks.
Lighting design will be by Cameron Smith, with sound design by Josie Mueller. The cast is comprised of 5 talented performers: Jordan Smith (Lizzie), Addison Aquino (Nathan), Julia Cropper (Jessica), Molly Norton (Karen) and Reagan Townley (Marianne), who have been rehearsing for several weeks.
Tickets are still available through the OCU Box Office for what looks to be an amazing theatrical production.
See Dusty and the Big Bad World at the Black Box Theatre, and get ready to have a good time, look back and even change your mind about the world we live in.
