Oklahoma City University’s men’s and women’s wrestling teams have been nothing short of dominant throughout their seasons so far.
Both teams remain undefeated in dual meets, with the men’s team holding a 4-0 record and the women’s team holding a 3-0 record, as well as notching a conference win.
Preseason rankings had the men’s team ranked as the number one team in the Sooner Athletic Conference, and the sixteenth-ranked team throughout the NAIA, with Cooper Mahaffey, Cade Manion, Drake Vannoy, Moses Torres, Keegan Luton, Hayden Brown, Kolbe Madron, and Kaleb Stone all appearing on the national rankings in their respective weight classes.
Since then, the men’s team has competed in the Friends University’s, Falcon Invite, gone head-to-head against the Central Baptist College Mustangs, winning the meet 53-0, wrestled in the Carl Albert State College’s, Carl Albert State Open, battled in the University of Nebraska’s, UNK Younes Hospitality Open, taken on Wayland Baptist University winning 31-17, won their first home meet against Jarvis Christian College 47-7, and beat Texas Wesleyan University 33-18.
The women’s team has been just as busy, having wrestled against Carl Albert State College, competed in the Missouri Valley College’s, Missouri Valley Open, squeezed out a 25-21 win against Wayland Baptist University, swept Jarvis Christian College 48-0 in their first home meet, and edged out a win against Sooner Athletic Conference opponents, Texas Wesleyan University.
The women’s team has also seen some love in the NAIA Coaches Poll, with several athletes being in the top 20 rankings of their respective weight classes.
Destiny Campbell, Bryce White, Makayla Munoz, Ryann Rumsey and Marissa Jimenez all broke the top 20 of their classes, with Eliana Martinez and Presley Givens ranking in the top 10.
Sophia Smith was ranked second in her weight class, with Avery Ashley ranked first in the NAIA.
The women’s team is set to compete in five more meets, taking on the Texas Woman’s University and Carl Albert State College at home, as well as competing in the Grand View University’s, Grandview Open, wrestling at the Baker University and finishing off their regular season with the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
The men’s team only has four regular season meets left, taking on Missouri Valley College, which is followed by hosting the AMC/SAC Duals, only to go back to Missouri Valley College for the Missouri Valley Open, finally finishing off their regular season with the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
