On Feb 16, Alpha Chi Omega held a Pie Night fundraising for their philanthropy — domestic violence awareness and support for survivors.
During the event, there was a plethora of treats ranging from pies, cakes, cookies, muffins, chocolate-covered assortments and much more. The beautifully decorated house was filled with many sisters from various sororities and other members of the campus community showing their support.
Entertainment consisted of Oklahoma City University’s comedy improv troupes. Their acts were lively additions to the night and left their audience wanting more.
There were fun photo opportunities, table information handouts, and buttons that could be personalized by finishing the sentence “Love is ____.” The table handouts included information about the YWCA, an organization that provides an array of services to help the primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault regain control over their lives.
While Women’s History Month highlights the positives and improvements of this historically oppressed gender, there are still injustices taking place every day. By supporting these organizations, individuals help and guide those in their own community to better lives.
YWCA’s C.A.R.E. program provides “crisis hotlines, advocacy, counseling, emergency residential shelter, an economic empowerment program, and domestic violence nurse examiner exams. If you or someone you know is in danger, reach out immediately.
Something as simple as pie can mean so much more. To know when more sorority philanthropy events are taking place, check out the website OCU Engage. It is both fun and rewarding to get involved with your campus community.
