The holiday season was kicked off this past year with the second annual Holiday Spectacular presented by the Oklahoma City University Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment, running from December 7-11.
The Spectacular was a two-act dance show with performances comprised entirely of student dancers with more student dancers filling several management positions, under the direction of Tiffany van der Merwe.
The show began with a warm holiday welcome before transitioning into winter pieces emphasizing the magic of the season.
In the second act, numbers include a winter storm and a classic nativity scene.
The performance ended with an upbeat Christmas wish that encapsulates the joy of the season.
Each number fitted the holiday theme with falling snow, sparkling costumes, and even special appearances from famous holiday figures including Santa Claus and the Grinch.
The show was produced by Melanie Shelley and dedicated to the memory of Ann Lacy, namesake of the school, who passed away in 2023.
The show featured over 130 dancers and 50 crew members in a fabulous display of the cheerful holiday spirit.
Ten faculty choreographers brought this show to life with the assistance of dozens working in costume, lighting and sound design, stage management, marketing and more. The Holiday Spectacular ran for five total performances over the weekend.
It is no secret that the Ann Lacy Dance School is a highly competitive and renowned dance school, and following this performance it is not hard to see why.
Dancers maintained high energy throughout the evening while never sacrificing technique.
Impressive routines including the acclaimed Starettes kick line never ceased to amaze audiences.
Audiences filled the Kirkpatrick Auditorium every night of the show to see the highlight of the dance semester!
