The Oklahoma City University School of Music wrapped up 2023 with their annual Christmas Vespers Concert.
This beautiful event was held in the First Presbyterian Church and featured performances from the OCU choirs and orchestras.
The four OCU Choirs performed 16 songs prior to ending the night with candlelight singing of “Night of Silence” during which seniors sing “Silent Night” in contrast to the piece as part of an OCU choir tradition.
The four choirs: Ad Astra Women’s Chorus, University Chamber Choir, University Chorale, and University Singers performed renditions of Christmas classics including “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” “First Noel,” “Away in a Manger” and “Christmas Flourish” which is a combination of Christmas carols.
They also sang an array of classical festive pieces such as “O Magnum Mysterium,” “Veni, Veni Emmanuel,” and “Estampie Natalis.”
Another aspect of the concert was the orchestral instrumentation that provided a fully rounded musical experience, as well as the narration of select Biblical readings throughout the program to embrace and emphasize the story of Christmas.
All these aspects, mixed with a little holiday magic, led to an evening overflowing with music and tradition that rings into the new year.
