Ji Hye Jung is a South Korean percussionist who visited Oklahoma City University for a free solo recital and a masterclass on Jan. 30 and 31. The solo recital was held on Jan. 30 at 4pm and the masterclass was held on Jan. 31 from 4-6pm.
Jung is currently an Associate Professor of Percussion at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. Before she accepted the position at Vanderbilt, she held the same title at the University of Kansas for six years.
Jung has performed in more than 100 concerts in South Korea. She has performances credited to her across the globe, stretching from Bantry, Ireland, Hong Kong, China, Jackson Hole, United States, Amsterdam, Holland, and Germany.
She received her Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and then went on to receive her Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music.
Jung has collected first prizes at the 2006 Linz International Marimba Competition and the 2007 Yale Gordon Concerto Competition. She has premiered and commissioned works by Kevin Puts, Alejandro Viñao, Paul Lanksy, John Serry, Lukas, Ligeti, Jason Treuting, Michael Torke, Phillip Glass, Bright Sheng, and Huang Ruo.
Jung has led masterclasses at the Peabody Conservative, the Curtis Institute, Rice University, the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice Poland, and Beijing’s Central Conservatory.
