The softball team defeated Oklahoma Baptist 13-3 and 10-0 March 2 at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Senior Jocelin Diaz, junior Kyndra Holasek, junior Kayley Humann and junior Jeananne Ruck hit home runs. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, moved to 31-1, 10-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars plated at least 10 runs for the 14th time and reached 10 hits for the 21st time this year. The Stars hit double digits in both categories in each game.
Humann pounded a two-run blast past the left-field wall for a 10-0 Oklahoma City lead through three innings of the first game. Holasek touched off the Stars’ scoring with a bases-clearing double off the right-field wall with the bases full for a 3-0 second-inning advantage.
Junior McRae Cayton and senior Jamie Rateliff added RBI singles in the third. Senior Carissa Turang struck for a three-run double to left for OCU.
Sophomore Madison Ellis nailed a two-run double to left, then Holasek had a run-scoring base hit to put the Stars in front 13-0 in the fourth.
Ellis went 2-for-2, scored three times, doubled and drove in a pair of runs, and Turang was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and her three-run double for OCU.
Holasek was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Humann went 2-for-3 with a run scored and her two-run homer. Rateliff scored three times, drove in a run and went 1-for-1.
Senior Maci-Brooke Lambert improved to 8-0. Lambert had three strikeouts in five innings. She carried a shutout into the fifth.
In the next game, Diaz nailed a solo homer in the first. Holasek socked a two-run shot over the left-field wall, and Ruck swatted a two-run blast beyond the center-field fence in the fourth.
In the second, Cayton bunted in a run, while Shelbi Legg had a third-inning RBI single. Diaz added a run-scoring double in the fourth.
Diaz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs driven in, while Cayton went 2-for-3, scored a run and knocked in a run for the Stars. Holasek posted three RBIs.
Freshman Abby Meador and senior Maria Gomez combined to blank Oklahoma Baptist on one hit, three walks and a hit batsman. Meador fanned Harlee Griffis on a called third strike with the bases loaded in the second. Meador (12-1) struck out three in four innings. Gomez worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning.
The Stars meet Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. doubleheader March 7 in Bartlesville, Okla.
