The gluten-free diet has become a cultural phenomenon for those seeking to lose weight and boost their digestive health
Critic finds ‘All is Bright’ a waste of talented actors
The most marked characteristic of All Is Bright is that it’s a colossal waste of Paul Giamatti and Paul Rudd.
Columnist has mixed emotions about Homecoming events
I’m just going to say it – I hate Homecoming.
Homecoming is just no fun. It’s a month of hell.
Columnist enjoys food, supports new campus restaurant
I had the great opportunity to be at a soft launch for Rehearsals, the new campus restaurant at the corner of 23rd Street and Kentucky.
Editors urge students to attend Homecoming activities
Homecoming is in full swing this week.
There are a variety of events occurring throughout the week, presented by Student Activities Council.
Columnist encourages chapel service participation
OCU puts on a Chapel service at 1 p.m. every Thursday in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
This year, the Chapel worship team–especially the Rev. Rod Newman–has hit their stride.
Critic finds ‘C.O.G’ a bore
If I hadn’t known that C.O.G. was based on an essay by humor writer David Sedaris, I might have mistaken it for the world’s most twisted Hallmark movie.
After all, the title stands for “child of God,” and the main character does go on something of a spiritual journey.
Distinguished Speaker Series welcomes Eboo Patel
Eboo Patel, this year’s first speaker in the Distinguished Speaker Series will present this evening.
Patel is the author of several books regarding interfaith relations and Islam in America. He also is the founder of the Interfaith Youth Core.
Columnist proposes undergound Oreo empire
America’s favorite cookie is just as addictive as the hard narcotic cocaine, according to a recent study.
Cocaine is considered one of the most harmful and addictive drugs on the market, according to the Controlled Substances Act of 1990.
Student Choreography Show inspires student through storytelling
One of the most cherished traditions at OCU is the Student Choreography Show. I have been humbled to see the show for the past four years. I think this year’s show topped the previous three. All of the dances were superb, from the beginning to the end.
Columnist warns against judging your life by social media standards
Most of us have experienced it, the feeling of inadequacy as we mindlessly scroll through our Facebook or Twitter feed on a Friday night watching tons of people have more fun than us.
We have also felt it perhaps in the middle of summer as we watch droves of people on vacation seemingly being the most interesting people in the world.
When we are doing these cool things, we are also posting pictures and other things on social media to remind our “friends” and “followers” just how cool we are as well.
Anyone who has social media is guilty of this at some point to some degree.
Feast on the puns of ‘Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2’
The best thing about Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is that it’s a kid’s movie. That’s not to say it isn’t clever or sophisticated – on the contrary, it’s one of the smartest animated films I’ve seen in a while.
What it isn’t, however, is a movie that tries to be any more mature than it has to be, and the result is wonderfully refreshing.
Student government works on transparency, allotments
When looking for help with funding, students and organizations have the opportunity to turn to student government.
Student Governmnet Association has the ability to give out money to organizations through allotments.
The legacy of Nubs: OCU bids farewell to infamous animal friend
Sisters and brothers of the campus of Oklahoma City University, I believe it is time that we accept the inevitable truth: our dear Nubs has gone to the big tree in the sky.
For some of you who did not have the opportunity—nay, the privilege!—of meeting Nubs, let me give you a short
overview of who this amazing squirrel was.
Columnist thinks access to health care should be a universal human right
Americans know their rights. This spirit of America is older than America itself.
Our Founding Fathers knew that they were being denied their rights as natural-born English citizens, and they fought to restore them. African-Americans knew that they had an inherent right derived from their Maker to not be the property of another man.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes excellent writing, directing debut
Don Jon is probably not the movie you think it is. It certainly wasn’t what I expected, which was a raunchy, laugh-a-minute comedy with a dash of heart and brains.
What I got was something far better: one of the sweetest, smartest, and most honest movies of the year.
Officials contradict previous statements regarding restaurant
By The Editors Rehearsals Grill is scheduled to open when staff is hired and trained. Church officials previously were concerned about the university profiting from the sale of beer and wine at Rehearsals. An agreement was recently made that alcohol would not be served at the restaurant, but the building will not be sold. Sodexo…

Ban for students, faculty bringing pets on campus not supported
Several faculty members were recently advised that bringing dogs or other pets on campus would not be allowed.
Many students bring their pets to campus to play on the Quad or visit friends.
Therapy dogs also are brought to campus for students to pet during midterms and finals as a stress reliever.
Soon, students and faculty may not be allowed to bring animals on campus.
‘Drinking Buddies’ fails to finish strong despite promising start
There’s something particularly disappointing about a film that dares to make an unexpected turn but doesn’t follow through. ‘Drinking Buddies’ fits that description. A sweet little indie film with moments of startling bite, it seems to have lofty aspirations but quickly abandons them in favor of a tidy, crowd-pleasing wrap-up.
Columnist sees postives, potential in new J.K. Rowling series
On Sept. 12, some of you may have felt an earthquake on campus.
In reality it was just me jumping for joy at the news release that there is going to be a new Harry Potter movie… kind of.
While the movie has nothing to do with Harry or his friends, it is set in the universe of the Harry Potter series.
Film critic pleasantly surprised by new Howard blockbuster ‘Rush’
By Amanda Ack, Film Critic While Ron Howard is certainly a consistently excellent filmmaker, he’s hardly what one would call an auteur. While he has skill and talent behind the camera, he lacks a defining style that gives his work a distinct feel. With Rush, he might have just found his niche. A tight, intimate…
Fantasy football is the sport of strategy
By Trey Witzel, Columnist Do you feel it in the air? I’m not talking about the fast approaching season of Homecoming. And no, not scarf weather either. Something better than both. Football season is upon us. More importantly, fantasy football season is upon us. For the past seven years, I have been participating in fantasy…
Columnist encourages students to speak out against recent racism
By Matt Patrick, Columnist On Sunday night, OCU’s own Kelsey Griswold, acting senior and Miss Oklahoma, came 2nd runner up at the Miss America pageant. Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, took home the crown that night as the first Indian-American to win the pageant. At OCU, the crowds cheered with certain sadness at the fact…
Columnist finds hope in Miss America
By Trey Witzel, Columnist Not a Sooner or a Cowboy, but a Star. There have been lots of reactions on campus to the Miss America 2013 pageant. Yet it seems almost all of campus was able to unite behind a fellow star, Kelsey Griswold. The title for this article came from what our Miss…
Lost lives seen as worst tragedy of Sept. 11
By Matt Patrick, Columnist Students my age may barely remember the events of 12 years ago. Most of us were elementary school students who grew up in one of the most prosperous and peaceful times in American history. The technology boom was creating thousands, if not millions of jobs. The federal budget was balanced. As…
