Student government to plan more tailgate events
Student Government Association hosted a tailgate party Nov. 6 in the caf.
The event was the second tailgating event hosted by SGA this year. The first was for a soccer game.

Homecoming ‘starts’ with events hosted across campus
OCU is hosting Homecoming, a competition with events including banner, window, and lip sync this week.
The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “Start.”
Lip Sync musical competition scheduled for Friday
The lip sync competition for Homecoming is Friday, Nov. 1.
Organizations write and choreograph a short performance to a pre-recorded track. Performers are not allowed to make any noise of their own.
Distinguished Speaker Series highlights cultural diversity
Eboo Patel, the first guest of this year’s Distinguished Speaker Series, will present tonight. The speech’s title is “there’s no better time to stand up for your values than when they’re under attack.”
Patel will speak at 7:30 p.m. in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
Student Senate passes resolution regarding laundry maintenance
Student Senate passed a resolution that addresses the maintenance of laundry facilities for campus residents.
A resolution is a formal way for students to communicate their wishes to administration.
New associate director excited to work with students
Lesley Black has replaced Corey Hill as associate director of student development.
Hill now works as the director of education programs at Kappa Sigma fraternity in Charlottesville, Va.
Hill also previously served as the interfraternal council adviser.
Black also will serve as adviser for Student Senate and OCULeads, a program for new students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership potential throughout their high school career.
SAC to host Midnight Breakfast for midterm week
Midnight Breakfast, a free late night breakfast with music hosted by Student Activities Council, is scheduled Oct. 8 in the cafeteria in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
The event is free for students with valid student IDs.
Sorority to host ‘Alpha Phiesta’ philanthropy event
Alpha Phi is scheduled to host their annual Alpha Phiesta philanthropy event 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Alpha Phi House in the Panhellenic Quadrangle. The entrance fee is $5.
The sorority is combining this event with their other annual Picnic Basket Auction fundraiser.
Lambda Chi Alpha hosts philanthropy week activities
Lambda Chi Alpha is hosting their philanthropy week for Feeding America this week.
The week’s events include a karaoke night, a chili cook-off, a volleyball tournament, and a celebratory toga foam party.
Intramural Sports season kicks off with flag football
The intramural sports season for all OCU students and employees has kicked off.
Flag football season is in session.
Other sports this year include sand volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, table tennis, basketball, and soccer.
