Men’s Cross Country to compete in Mid-States Classic
The Stars men’s cross country team will travel to Winfield, Kansas, to compete in the NAIA Mid-States Classic on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Stars are currently ranked number 1 in the nation for men’s cross country. They will compete at 11 a.m. against rivals like Oklahoma Baptist, St. Gregory’s University, University of Science and Arts Oklahoma, and Wayland Baptist University.
School of Theatre students to represent at H&8th
Volunteers from OCU’s School of Theater will volunteer under the direction of professor Ashley Bellet at the H&8th Night Market on Halloween.The students will do Halloween costume makeup for children attending the event, which will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Men’s soccer scores close victory
The OCU Stars men’s soccer team won 4-3 against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday, Oct. 21. The team is now ranked at the top of the men’s soccer standings in the Sooner Conference, coming away with a four win streak.
OCU adds Master’s Degree Program in Elementary Teaching
OCU officials have announced the addition of a new master’s degree program in Elementary Teaching. Classes in the program will begin in summer 2015. In a statement about the program, Elizabeth Willner, the director of teacher education, said that a need for more qualified public school teachers motivated university officials to begin the new program.

With high-profile diseases like Ebola and Entrovirus in the news, it can be easy to forget that other illnesses pose a very real, if less life-threatening, threat.College students possess several qualities that make them even more susceptible to illness than people at large: college students often eat more unhealthy food, have less time for exercise, and get less sleep than those living in the “real world.”
New student health insurance plan begins
Students were charged $816 for health insurance coverage this fall, unless they petitioned to have the fee removed. OCU began requiring all domestic undergraduate students taking 12 hours or more, and all graduate students taking nine hours or more have health insurance coverage when enrolling. This new plan is in effect with the Affordable Care Act.
