It may only be four weeks into the spring semester, but I’m already feeling overwhelmed with stress.
I realized I feel most relaxed when I have my headphones on and I’m practicing on the putting green.
A therapeutic way to relieve stress is by participating in a hobby.
It is important to take time out of your busy schedule to devote to your hobby in order to alleviate stress.
Participating in your hobby is an enjoyable break, rather than a stressful time.
Practicing my putting was “me time” rather than class or homework time.
I eliminated any thoughts of school and focused on the music and golf.
“Hobbies provide a slice of work-free and responsibility-free time in your schedule,” according to Elizabeth Scott, wellness writer for About.com. “This can be especially welcome for people who feel overwhelmed by all that they have to do, and need to recharge their batteries by doing something they enjoy.”
Some hobbies may include playing an instrument, playing a sport, drawing, painting, writing, knitting, dancing, singing, acting, or volunteering.
I feel fortunate to have a hobby that I also participate in at school as I am a member of the women’s golf team. Other students probably feel the same way.
If their hobby becomes more like work, then they should find another hobby.
I also enjoy knitting in my spare time as a stress reliever.
I’m sure a club would be really impressed with my hand-knit beverage coasters and solid-colored scarves. Not.
