The women’s basketball team began their season Saturday with a 110-46 victory against St. Thomas in Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars netted 33 3-point shots, their highest since Rob Edmisson became head coach.
Sophomore Guard Kayla MacKenzie posted 25 points, five of them 3-pointers.
“We took 33 3s, but they made sense,” Edmisson said. “Kayla MacKenzie can flat shoot the ball.
“She had the hot hand, and we found her.”
The team built their largest lead
when Senior Guard Tiffany Goldwire picked up a steal
then passed to Senior Guard Taylor Booze.
Booze shot a layup for a 110-46 advantage with 12 seconds remaining.
“One of the last things I told my team after the game was how I noticed late in the game that Tiffany Goldwire was on the floor diving for a loose ball, Edmisson said. “That’s a tremendous sign for our team that she was out there sacrificing her body regardless of what the score was.”
The Stars, now ranked No. 3, will face Mid-America Christian at 6 p.m. Nov. 22 in Oklahoma City.
