Sen. Anthony England (senior-at-large) presented Senate Resolution 002 titled, “Resolution of Support for Communication and Transparency between the Legislative Bodies of Faculty and Student Senate.”
The resolution was presented to garner support from senators before a proposal was submitted to Faculty Senate members.
The proposal would request to allow Sarah Cook, president of Senate, to serve as a non-voting delegate in Faculty Senate and to allow a non-voting faculty delegate to sit during Student Senate meetings, the resolution states.
The resolution passed by consent.
Sens. Clayton Puckett (sophomore-at-large) and Kristi Garr (athletics) presented Senate Bill 005, requesting $1,500 in funding for the rowing team to attend the Head of the Hooch Regatta event Nov. 4-6.
An amendment was made to the bill, cutting funding for gasoline from $500 to $250 because Senate has not funding travel expenses in the past, England said.
Sen. Erica Olavarria (senior-at-large) made multiple objections when senators came to a vote.
She said she did not feel comfortable with Senate funding more than $1,000 to one bill.
The total cost for the event is $11,00o and rowers are doing fundraising for the event for what isn’t funded by Senate, Puckett said.
Funding the bill is a good way for Senate to show their support to athletics, Sen. Robin Ladd (social sciences) said.
The bill passed by majority vote with the amended total.
Olavarria presented SB 006 for Tap Club, requesting $200 for two pairs of men’s tap shoes and new speakers.
Senators showed their support for the bill and it passed by consent.
Sen. German Martinez (Greek) presented SB 007 for $580 in funding for Jesus Greeks to attend an Apologetic Conference on Oct. 15 and for T-shirts.
Jesus Greeks is a new organization on campus composed of members of the Greek community that aims at fostering Christian fellowship among Greeks so they may implement positive change in their respective houses, the bill states.
England presented an amendment made to the bill during an Appropriations Committee meeting that cut funding for the event’s Night Concert series and reduced funding for T-shirts.
Sen. Sadie Kaserman (business) submitted an amendment to the bill to cut funding for T-shirts all together. The amendment passed changing the bill’s total to $260.
Martinez submitted an amendment to increase funding for T-shirts, but the amendment did not pass.
The bill passed with the first two amendments.
Midnight Breakfast will be hosted Oct. 11 starting at 11 p.m. outside the caf in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center, Sen. Nick Bonfiglio (junior-at-large) said.
