Two students were stopped by police early Saturday morning for driving 41mph on NW 23rd, a 30 mph designated street. The blue Honda Accord came to a stop at Kentucky Avenue and J.R. Homsey Drive where the driver and his passenger, both of whom smelled of alcohol, were asked to exit the car.
The driver and the passenger, both male OCU students, had trouble exiting the vehicle. The passenger had been found unconscious in the back seat and similar to the driver, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
The driver failed all of the field dexterity tests and was placed under arrest which led the passenger to become confrontational. As a result, both students were incarcerated.
The driver’s BAC was .15% while the passenger’s was .162% which is over twice the legal limit of .08%. A bottle of almost empty beer was found in the vehicle which was impounded following the incident.
After being taken to the Oklahoma City Police Department the driver was transported to the Oklahoma County Detention Center for incarceration. The passenger was taken to the Public Inebriation Alternative Center and was incarcerated at the facility for the standard sobriety period. OCU staff member Jonathan Triplett was notified of the incident.
