Oklahoma City University recently made local news after charges were filed against a sex offender who broke into an on-campus dormitory.
The offender, Brandon Barr, was arrested on Jan. 17 after finding his way into the United Methodist Hall and a resident advisor’s room.
Barr entered the building unauthorized, posing as a maintenance worker, before accessing the RA’s room.
According to Oklahoma’s KFOR News, he “forcibly pulled her into a side hug, and reached around her with his free hand.”
Barr made a slew of sexual comments to the victim as she rushed to text others for help.
University police were able to make their way to the site and arrested Barr promptly. Charges according to court records include break and entering without permission, sexual assault and battery and first-degree burglary. These were officially filed against Barr on Monday, March 11.
Nick Trougakos, OCU senior director of marketing & communications, issued the following statement to news sources.
“Oklahoma City University officials are aware of the criminal charges filed late last week. The OCU campus Police Department responded quickly at the time of the incident in question to apprehend the suspect and has since worked closely with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office during their investigation. Out of respect for the ongoing judicial process, university officials will have no further comment at this time.”
This statement was not formally released to the campus community and was rather addressed to news outlets only.
Barr remains in custody with a $65,000 bond.
He was previously convicted of a multitude of other offenses and was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.
