The Oklahoma City University men and women’s basketball teams started their seasons off on November 2nd, with both teams picking up a win.
The women’s team beat the Wiley College Wildcats at home 79-53, starting their season off hot, but falling to every team since.
The men’s team opened their season in the Abe Lemons Classic tournament at home, picking up an 81-61 win against The Master’s University Mustangs, only pulling out one more win in the homecoming game against the Friends University Falcons.
The women’s team is slated to play thirty games this season, barring any post-season games, and are hoping to snap their losing streak in their game against the Sterling College Warriors on November 21st.
The men’s team is also slated to play thirty games, barring post-season play, with the hope of picking up a win against the John Brown University Golden Eagles on November 28th.
This is the first season that both teams will play at their home stadium since the re-flooring of the Abe Lemons Arena basketball court, following a burst pipe on Christmas Eve of 2022.
Men’s team head coach, Mark Berokoff, is joined by assistant coaches, Garrett White, Eli Burk and John Roby as they lead the Stars through the season.
Berokoff said, “I am very excited for this group this year, we are going to be very young, but very talented. They work extremely hard and have bought into the mission of the program.”
The men’s team is rostered by sophomore guard, John Perry, freshman guard, Yorgio Golesis, sophomore guard, Avery Jackson, sophomore guard, Treyton Owens, senior guard, Nick Bonifay, freshman guard/forward, James Cloud, freshman guard, River Byrne, sophomore center, Jack McWilliams, sophomore guard, Noah McMullan, senior forward, Brandon Jackson, junior forward, Parker Jones, sophomore guard, Alex Rasmusen, freshman forward/center, Caden Steward, freshman forward, Clayton Jewell and junior forward, Sam Taulapiu.
The women’s team is led by head coach Kris Seigenthaler, as well as assistant coaches, Rachel Tapps, Kennedi Simien, Prince Bridges and Cody Commander.
