Kramer School of Nursing donated all of their supplies to St. Anthony’s Hospital and Integris Hospital.
Both institutions reached out to OCU in need of any extra supplies the school would be willing to donate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lois Salmeron, dean of the Kramer School of Nursing, said they gave these institutions everything from Kramer’s labs that the students would normally use.
“We gave anywhere from five boxes of gloves to 20 or 30 boxes of gloves, depending on the size,” Salmeron said.
The donated items included shielded face masks, simple face masks, molded face masks, 150 gowns, gloves of all different sizes, sanitizer, bleach wipes, and more.
Salmeron said the institutions contacted Kramer at the beginning of the pandemic.
“They called us saying, ‘We are running low on supplies, do you have anything you can give us?’ so we said sure, for both institutions,” Salmeron said.
Salmeron said the school has wonderful relationships with both institutions and partners with them often.
“We probably donated $8,000 worth of supplies in total to these hospitals,” Salmeron said.
Salmeron said she receives emails daily from alumni with updates on how they are working during this pandemic.
“They say how well Kramer has educated them to be able to do this,” Salmeron said.
Erin McBriarty, biomedical sciences and psychology sophomore, said she thinks it’s great the OCU community is doing something extra for patients and essential workers at hospitals.
“I think it’s really important that people are helping people, even when we’re in times where no one knows what’s happening or what the future might bring,” McBriarty said.
Salmeron said Kramer School of Nursing has been very involved in helping others during the pandemic, from giving donations to having alumni out practicing in the field. They hope everyone is staying safe during this time.
