Lauryn Pritchard, business accounting sophomore, was named Sooner Athletic Conference women’s golfer of the week for March 9-15.
Pritchard said the Sooner Athletic Conference is a small college athletics conference based around schools in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Texas. SAC players of the week are chosen individually each week by sports information directors within the conference.
Pritchard said her season was off to an exciting start, and her tournaments performed went great.
The first tournament of the season began in Arizona, at Wigman Golf Resort.
“Even though we didn’t play how we wanted, the weather and the trip were both amazing, so no complaints,” Pritchard said.
The second tournament of the season was at KickingBird Golf Course in Edmond, Oklahoma.
“All 10 girls played and I’m very proud on our overall outlook and determination from that tournament and it’s very unfortunate our season had to be cut early as I know we were about to do some great things,” Pritchard said.
Because of the cancellation of in person classes due to COVID-19, the season ended early for the women’s golf team, as well as other sports on campus.
“COVID-19 has canceled our spring season, including Nationals. This was very upsetting as we were just getting started and had two tournaments coming up in the week that in-school classes and all sports events were canceled,” Pritchard said.
Despite being home for the rest of the semester, Pritchard plans to stay in practice during this time.
“Luckily, golf is a sport where you don’t have to be around people, so I have been able to go to the golf course by myself and practice. I do feel like the golf courses around my house are going to get shut down soon as the courses that we practice at in Oklahoma are closing, so I will probably end up practicing chipping and putting at or around my house,” Pritchard said.
