Technologies officials encourage communication when issues arise
Some students are currently having trouble with Wi-Fi on campus.
As of last semester, campus technology services upgraded the bandwidth, and some students began to question if Wi-Fi issues had any correlation to this upgrade.
Ally Spear, biology sophomore, said she has dealt with some Wi-Fi issues in her Cokesbury apartment.
“I have noticed an inconsistency in the Wi-Fi. It is very spotty around certain areas on campus which makes it hard to study in those places,” Spear said.
Erin McBriarty, cell and molecular biology sophomore, said she thinks the Wi-Fi could be better.
“I don’t think the Wi-Fi is horrible, but I definitely think there are some improvements that could be made regarding the inconsistencies on campus,” McBriarty said.
Christopher Craig, campus network engineer, said these issues cannot possibly have any correlation to each other.
“I have not heard anything specifically about this being an issue,” Craig said.
Craig said the campus Wi-Fi’s infrastructure is complicated.
“There are a lot of different nodes all over campus, and if one goes down the overall experience will be degraded,” Craig said.
Craig said that it is not uncommon for people to say wireless isn’t great in their room.
“It is usually a coverage issue,” Craig said.
Craig said the team is aware of some areas that need updating, but other areas are currently very strong.
“If anyone has any issues, we want to know,” Craig said.
Craig said he doesn’t want students to feel like they can’t reach out.
“Most tools are just managed by me, and sometimes, I won’t see there’s an issue until someone tells me,” Craig said.
If student experience difficulty with wi-fi, they can reach out to network services at helpdesk@okcu.edu.
