Megan Wilson, acting junior, is living her Spongebob dreams.
Wilson recently was featured on a new Nickelodeon show called “Make my Nickelodeon Dreams Come True.” The show premiered on Facebook watch and will be available on Youtube and Instagram live soon.
Wilson said she found the opportunity through her Facebook.
“I saw a casting call on my Facebook page,” she said. “I was bored over the summer, and I was like ‘I’ll submit for this, why not?’”
Wilson initially submitted a photo as well as a reason that she is a Nickelodeon superfan.
“I submitted that, and then the next day I got an email asking me to answer more questions in a video,” she said. “I am a Nickelodeon superfan, but I really revved it up and made myself look insane so I would get people’s attention.”
Wilson said after she submitted the video, she went on with her life.
“It took three minutes to make, and then I sent it in and didn’t think anything of it,” she said. “Then they emailed me back and asked me to come to LA.”
Wilson traveled to Los Angeles over fall break and got to see the “Spongebob Squarepants” studios.
“I didn’t know what was happening until I got there,” she said. “The episode goes through how Spongebob is made. I met all of the animators and see how they did the story boards and editing.”
Wilson said she also got the meet Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob.
“I also got to play around with some voice over work,” she said.
Wilson said the episode ended with her getting slimed.
Celina James, music theater senior, said Wilson has loved Spongebob for a long time.
“Megan is one of my oldest friends; we were best friends at camp, and now we’re roommates,” James said. “She loves Spongebob, and she loves Nickelodeon.”
Wilson said she has many favorite episodes of the cartoon.
“I really like the Handsome Squidward episode and the Hash-Slinging Slasher episode. I also love it when Spongebob visits Sandy’s dome and gets all dried out,” Wilson said. “Those are probably my top three.”
Wilson said she has been recognized on campus for her cameo.
“I did the curtain call at the beginning of Cymbelline and someone said ‘yaaaaaaas Spongebob’ when I left the stage,” she said. “People also shout at me from across campus calling me Spongebob.”
Wilson had one last thing to say to her fans.
“Thank you for the five minutes of fame,” she said.
