The Oklahoma City University film department will co-sponsor a film screening event with the Oklahoma City Museum of Art Film Society.
The film department and OKCMOA will present “An Evening with Whit Stillman,” celebrating the Academy Award-nominated writer and director and the 25thanniversary of Barcelona, his second film.
Stillman will attend the event and participate in a Q&A following a screening of Barcelona.
An additional short film will be shown but will be kept a secret until the screening.
Bryan Cardinale-Powell, associate professor of film, said he is excited for students to learn more about Stillman and his work.
“A lot of students weren’t aware of Stillman as a filmmaker until now, and I’ve heard from some who seem excited about having the opportunity to learn more about him,” Cardinale-Powell said.
Duke Bartholomae, acting junior, said he looks forward to the event.
“Stillman is such a great director and writer,” Bartholomae said. “I’m personally really excited that he was chosen to come down. His work, especially Barcelona, elevates this brilliant, almost classical-style humor, and it’s exciting that they’re showcasing that.”
Bartholomae said he encourages students to attend the event and ask questions, especially those who are unfamiliar with Stillman’s work.
“He’s been in the business for quite a while and has a great reputation,” Bartholomae said. “For anyone out there who is interested in the arts or comedy, this is a great guy to talk to.”
Cardinale-Powell said in addition to appearing at the screening event, Stillman will speak on campus in the Norick Art Center on Oct. 23 at 10:00am.
“He’ll be here specifically to talk with students, in a more exclusive kind of set up,” Cardinale-Powell said. “I think people from all sorts of different departments should consider going, especially those centered in theatre, acting, or anyone who aspires to be a writer or director.”
The OKCMOA Film Society’s “An Evening with Whit Stillman” will be at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art on Oct. 22 at 6:00pm. Admission is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance.
