Students created a podcast in which they analyze different horror films available on Netflix.
Netflix and Kill was started and is hosted by Kyla Bruegel, film/art senior, and Marty Gibson, studio art junior. The theme song was composed by Hannah V. Boyens, music/film junior and additional host, and the logo was created by Gibson. There are currently two episodes, and they are posted every other Tuesday.
“Basically, it’s a biweekly podcast where myself and whichever of my friends have joined me that week choose a random horror film on Netflix and talk about it,” Bruegel said.
Bruegel said some of the movies they watch are well made and thought of with high regard, but they also watch movies which are not as esteemed.
“Our very first episode is about Hellraiser, which is kind of a cult classic, and it’s a really great movie,” Bruegel said. “And our second episode is about The Midnight Meat Train, which is not a good movie. At all.”
Gibson said the analysis they perform on these films can be very articulate.
“I mean, there is a lot of academic talk sometimes,” Gibson said.
Gibson also said the analysis becomes more casual.
“I mean, we do swear a lot,” Gibson said.
Bruegel said she came up with idea for the podcast both because of her interest in audio editing and her love for horror films.
“I just love horror movies,” Bruegel said. “And because I’m a film major and most of the people on the podcast with me are also film majors, we use it as an excuse to do what we normally do and talk about films.”
Netflix and Kill is distributed by Lunar Light Studio and is available on streaming services such as iTunes and Spotify.
