Applications were released for New Student Orientation Leaders, leaders whose purpose is to help prepare for Stars Week, as well as Stars 101. They are selected in January and meet every other week to prepare for Stars Week.
“Being an NSO Leader is not a job, it is a volunteer leadership position,” said Colbi Beam, first year experience coordinator. “NSO Leaders help guide our new students and families around on Stars101 visits, act as peer mentors to our new students in the Fall and Spring, and help out during Stars Week.”
The applications were released Nov. 28. Beam said she is looking for students who are great role models, and people who are willing to share their success stories with new students.
“My biggest suggestion is to apply, come to an interview and see what it’s all about,” Beam said.
Positions are available every year. NSO chair oversees the entire orientation leader team, and the coordinator is in charge of planning individual events. Assistant coordinators are assistants to coordinators and planning their events and programs, and NSO leaders help plan events for Stars 101 and Stars Week.
Many NSO leaders highly recommend joining.
“I definitely recommend that anyone who is passionate about OCU applies for NSO,” said Adelaide Ross, acting junior. “It gets you involved on campus, and it is a wonderful way to make friends.”
If students have any questions or are interested in applying, they can email Beam at cbeam@okcu.edu.
