Students vote for 2017 Homecoming royalty

Voting for the 2017 OCU Homecoming royalty closes at 5 p.m. Oct. 27.

This year’s candidates for Homecoming Queen are:

• Sydney Blosch, music theater senior, representing Gamma Phi Beta
• Keeley Brewer, biomedical science senior, representing Alpha Chi Omega
• Madelaine Heigele, vocal performance senior, representing Alpha Phi, and
• Isa Ramirez, dance senior, representing Phi Mu.

The Homecoming King candidates are:

• Ben Patterson, religion senior, representing Lambda Chi Alpha, and
• Matthew Sparks, dance senior, representing Kappa Sigma.

Brewer said she is honored to represent her sorority because she loves Alpha Chi Omega and feels that she can represent her sisters’ pride in OCU, as well as the fun spirit of Homecoming.

“Through Alpha Chi, I have gained a better understanding of myself and what is mean to be a real strong woman,” she said. “I’ve learned the strength in the bonds of women and organizations that work tirelessly to make our campus and community a better place.”

The best part of Homecoming is getting to see everyone’s secret talents exposed through the events, Brewer said.

Patterson said he loves seeing his brothers rally around one another during Homecoming.

“My favorite part of Homecoming is seeing all of the organizations come together in a little friendly competition that may or may not bring out the best in us,” he said. “I want to represent my organization because it has given me everything I could ever ask for in a brotherhood. I don’t know what I would be doing or where I would be in life without Lambda Chi Alpha.”

Heigele said Alpha Phi has given her a loving family, as well as leadership skills and confidence. She loves watching how much they grow in the few short weeks of Homecoming.

“I was pretty blessed to represent my organization because I have had such a tough year,” she said. “Having a child and being a senior is very difficult, but my sisterhood has had my back from the very beginning, and I am completely honored to be the nominee.”

Students can vote for one candidate in each category on Orgsync. Winners will be crowned at the men’s basketball game at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 in Henry J. Freede Health and Wellness Center.
