Greek organizations on campus are preparing for formal recruitment, a series of events leading up to Bid Day, during which each organization will extend their invitations for students to join.
The first event is a Greek life informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 15 in Petree Recital Hall in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
There will be three rounds of sorority recruitment throughout the week, all taking place in Watson Lounge in Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
- Round One is an open house from 5:30-11:15 p.m. Aug. 16.
- Round Two is philanthropy night from 3:30-9:15 p.m. Aug. 18.
- Round Three is preference night from 4:30-9:15 p.m. Aug. 19.
Sorority Bid Day will be at 10 p.m. Aug. 20. Sororities also have continuous open bidding, which means students are offered bids on a rolling basis.
“Chapters have hand-out bids to women who signed up to formal recruitment and did not accept a bid and/or withdrew from the process,” Panhellenic President Isa Ramirez said. “[Continuous open bidding] also happens in the spring.”
Fraternity Rush will be from Aug. 24-26.
“If students want to get more involved and are not in a Greek organization, they can sign up for rush,” said Blake Lemmons, Interfraternity Council President. “If they are in a Greek organization, they need to speak with the chapters they are affiliated with.”
Other Greek life events open to all incoming and current students will take place leading up to Bid Day.
- Basketball and volleyball games at 6 p.m. Aug. 14 by the Team One Pavilion.
- Ultimate Frisbee game at 4 p.m. on Aug. 16 on the quad.
- Flag football game at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 18 on the quad.
- A potluck cookout at 5 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the Team One Pavilion.
- Open house night at 7 p.m. on Aug. 23 at each fraternity house.
- Formal night one at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Kramer School of Nursing.
- Formal night two at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 in Kramer.
Fraternity Bid Day will be Aug. 26 in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
Some incoming students have expressed excitement.
“I am beyond excited to start this new chapter in my life,” said Jessica Vanek, music theater freshman. “The sororities here all seem so nice, and seeing their presentations during orientation made me consider rushing.”
