Students to present one-minute plays at museum of art

The university’s theater program and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art’s “Art After 5” program are collaborating to present 12 one-minute plays.

The plays were selected at Workshop Wednesday on Feb. 1 by a panel consisting of Bryon Chambers, OKCMOA’s manager of tours and adult learning, Kate Brennan, head of voice for the school of theater, and Judith Palladino, professor of theater & theater for young audiences.

“These one-minute works were inspired by the permanent collection OKC Museum of Art, and then written, directed and will be performed by students of OCU’s devising course,” said Greg DeCandia, assistant professor of theater and director of the B.A. theater program.

The 12 one-minute plays will be at 5:30pm and 7:30pm March 9 as part of Art After 5 at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, 415 Couch Drive. The admission fee is $5.

“This is a direct example of art inspiring art,” said Daniel C. Brown, acting senior. “The fact that this can happen is why we need to be exposed to art each and every day.”

The plays are

• Goodbye Sun, written by Brade Bradshaw and inspired by “Provincetown Number 1” by Hans Hofmann,
• Changed, written by Brown and inspired by “i still get a thrill when i see bill 8” by Mel Ramos,”
• Your Potential is Bittersweet, written by Tyra Bullock and inspired by “Campbell’s Soup II: Cheddar Cheese 63” by Andy Warhol,”
• Seine Valley, written by Jillian Curran and inspired by “Reflecting” by Charles-Emile Jacque,
• “Orange-inal,” written by Hannah Green and inspired by “Parrot Tulip” by Lowell Nesbitt,
• One, written by Nick Mayes and inspired by “Persian Ceiling” by Dale Chihuly,
• Mixed Pearls with a Box of Flowers, written by Nicole Waltman and inspired by “Mixed Flowers with a Box of Pearls” by Martin Johnson Heade,
• Held, written by Madelon Wink and inspired by “Calla Lily (Lily – Yellow, No. 2)” by Georgia O’Keeffe,
• Wonderlust, Parts I, II, III, written by Hannah Boyens and inspired by “Falls at Totec Gorge” and “Grand Canal Venice” by Thomas Moran and “Landscape” by Nicoli Civosky, and
• Knocked Down, written by Sammi Kuehnlein and inspired by “Ikebana” by Dale Chihuly.
