Jeri Jones, former head resident for Oklahoma United Methodist Hall and housing and residence life specialist, left OCU for a job opportunity at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, which allowed her to be closer to her husband.
Jones’s last day was March 25. She is now coordinator for residence life at Texas Wesleyan.
“It was a really good situation for her,” said Kimberlea Harlow, psychology sophomore and work study for the housing office. “She wanted to be with her husband who has a really awesome job down there. [The job] was perfect for her and she felt it was what was best for her and her family.
“She’s one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met at OCU and she’s really going to be irreplaceable. She definitely left big shoes to fill.”
It will be interesting to see how her leave changes the housing office, Harlow said.
Michael Burns, director of housing and residence life, and Kevin Culbertson, head resident for Banning Hall and coordinator of housing operations, are covering Jones’s duties for now.
It’s unknown when a search for the position will begin. Burns and Culbertson were unavailable for comment.
One student said she’s sad Jones is gone, but is happy for her.
“My heart is a little broken,” said Christina Stewart, theater performance sophomore and resident assistant for Methodist Hall. “Jeri and I went to church together for several years before I came to OCU so it wasn’t easy for me to say good-bye. However, she’s now closer to her husband which is wonderful.”
