Emily Jones, dance freshman, shares her life passions, aspirations, and smells.
During her interview, she enjoyed a plate of pancakes.
Q: What are you most passionate about?
A: Dance. I love moving to make art. I think that’s very special. It flows from me naturally. Some people sing or write when they’re happy, and I just dance.
Q: Is your favorite type of dance the same as the dance you are best at?
A: No, I’m better at ballet than anything else, but I really love tap. I’m not that great at it yet, though.
Q: What type of dancing have you always wanted to try but never have?
A: Belly dancing. I think that would be so great but difficult. It’ll happen someday.
Q: What is one of your special skills besides dancing?
A: Does my height count as a special skill? It’s useful to reach things on high shelves and to intimidate people, though I’m not very intimidating. Also, I can do this special walk on my knees.
Q: What is your spirit animal?
A: Matthew Thompson (dance sophomore) says it’s half a platypus and half a gazelle.
Q: If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
A: The beach. Not a trashy beach. A nice, warm beach. Not like England.
Q: Describe your family in five words.
A: Sarcastic, loving, individual, intelligent, creative.
Q: Describe your dream pet.
A: I’ve always wanted a teacup hedgehog. I would take it for walks and have a little bag for it. I want to move off campus junior year and get a hedgehog. Or a cat, but that’s not really a dream pet.
Q: If you changed your name, what would you change it to?
A: Even if I was given the option to change my name, I wouldn’t. I like the name Emily Jones because it’s common. Performers worry about their name being to common, but common names are easy to remember.
Q: What is your greatest fear?
A: My greatest fear is the concept of infinity. Our universe just keeps going, and time goes on forever. I can’t picture it.
Q: Do you wish you were born in a different era?
A: No. The world kinda sucks sometimes, but I feel like it sucks less than it did in the past. Especially for women. Go vote!
Q: If you could only wear one pattern for the rest of your life, which pattern would you pick?
A: Probably stripes. I could do pinstripes, wide stripes, colored blocking, which is technically large stripes.
Q: What is the ultimate dream?
A: To be in Cirque du Soleil. Dancing. Whatever they want me to do.
Q: What is the most influential toy from your childhood?
A: I played with Barbies a lot. I remember my dad built this Barbie house for my older sister. It was legit, like two stories tall. I played with that for a long time. It was special.
Q: Describe your life in terms of a smell.
A: My life has a nice, rich, earthy smell. Like coffee. Grounded (haha) and down to earth. It smells good. Not everyone is going to like it, but it’s a nice, clear, direct smell. It’s not going to lie to you. Coffee doesn’t lie.
