Body image is a huge problem in today’s society, and children sometimes begin disliking their bodies at a young age. Several people have done research and published articles showing the unrealistic body proportions of Barbies and Disney princesses. But what about the other characters in children’s movies? Are we going to let them slide, just because they are not human? Some of the most treasured children’s movie characters have suspiciously perfect features.
1. Lumiere – Beauty and the Beast
This is one skinny candlestick. His proportions are not realistic to humans whatsoever. If young people strive to match his body, they will have no muscles and one leg. Is this really the image we want our children to idolize? #AllLegsAreBeautiful
2. Buzz Lightyear – Toy Story
This kind of chest to head ratio cannot be healthy. Buzz may look manly, but no real skin can endure that kind of betterment. Also, do we really want our children to think they can fly? #AllWalkingIsBeautiful
3. Mike Wazowski – Monsters Inc.
Today’s society often values large, beautiful eyes. Some people are born with small eyes. Sure, big eyes are pretty, but this monster takes it too far. His eye takes up 75% of his face and 65% of his body. Is he trying to tell children that one eye is better than two? Does he want children to poke an eye out? And what about his nose? This monster cannot be sending a positive message. #AllEyesAreBeautiful
4. Wall-E – Wall-E
I have never seen less realistic legs than this robot’s mechanical belts. I can’t even call them legs! This character travels so smoothly without moving its upper body. It’s unnatural. We should be helping children be happy with the legs they were born with, instead of planting these misleading images in their brains. #AllLegsAreBeautiful
5. Mufasa – The Lion King
This dude has got some luscious locks. It looks good on him, but his image teaches young children that massive amounts of hair are the goal of any appearance. In reality, a child with that much hair would be quite concerning. It would probably weigh them down and cause long-term back problems. Also, if Mufasa lived in real life as a wild lion, there is no way that his mane would look so beautiful and well-groomed 24/7. Let the children play and get dirty. #AllHairIsBeautiful
6. Mr. Potato Head – Toy Story
Along the same lines of hair, Mr. Potato Head has a miraculously flawless and unrealistic mustache. First of all, we never see him shave – it just naturally looks that great all the time? I think not. More importantly, though, kids should not feel pressured to grow a thick mustache at an early age – in fact, it’s quite impossible! #AllMustachesOrLackThereofAreBeautiful
7. Minions – Despicable Me
Every child loves these cute little guys. Have you ever taken a look at their teeth, though? Incredible white, straight little pearls. Very few children have perfectly straight teeth. They want to, but it is beyond their control! They cannot help it if they don’t reach Minion-level perfection! Also, children have baby teeth that they will lose and feel even less similar to their yellow idols. #AllTeethAndGapsAreBeautiful
8. Olaf – Frozen
Perhaps the most lovable character of the decade, every child wants to be like Olaf. Personality-wise, this is great, but have you seen that snowman’s eyebrows? They are flawlessly shaped – the product of a good wax. Small children should not need to worry about waxing any body hair at this point. #AllEyebrowsAreBeautiful
9. Ants – A Bug’s Life
These ants are respectable, hardworking members of society, but their butts are ridiculous! Nobody has that kind of tiny waist to big butt ratio. Not only are their butts big – they are perfectly smooth and round. Children do not all have toned butts! We cannot discount the lumpy booty! #AllButtsAreBeautiful
10. Slinky Dog – Toy Story
In the Toy Story movies, this dog saves the day several times by using his body to help the group. He stretches himself in a way that would be quite dangerous for a child, or any human. Also, he doesn’t have any inner organs. Is he sending the message that intestines are useless or ugly? Even if they are, sources like Wikipedia and Yahoo Answer say that large percentage of doctors have suggested that these organs are necessary and should not be removed. I’m not telling you how to raise your children. I’m just saying I trust the vague, unnamed doctors over the dog. #AllRibCagesFullOrEmptyAreBeautiful
