Everyone gets sick of caf food after a while. Here are ten suggestions to spice up your meals without leaving the caf.
1. BLT brunch bagel
Grab a bagel, lettuce, and tomato from the sandwich station. Then, add some bacon from the classics line. If it’s not brunch, you can use bacon bits, but you’ll probably have to use some type of sauce if you don’t want the bacon to fall through the bagel hole.
2. Gourmet waffles
Use the brunch waffle maker. Add any combination of the following to the provided batter: craisins, sprinkles, chocolate chips, peanut butter, Oreos. Or, if you’re feeling something savory, pull a Waffle Champion, and use the waffle as a taco shell for eggs, sausage and bacon from the classics line.
3. Egg salad
Chop up a boiled egg. Mix in mayo, salt, and pepper. Scoop it onto bread, or not. This simple recipe takes seconds to create, but everyone will marvel in awe at your “culinary skills.”
4. Hummus and veggie wrap
Ask for a tortilla at the exhibition or sandwich station. Spread hummus on the tortilla, and add vegetables from the vegan and salad stations. Stick some meat in there if you’re a carnivore.
5. Bread bowl
Stick a piece of bread in a bowl. Maybe two for reinforcement. Pour soup on top.
6. Root beer floats
Fill 3/4 of a cup with vanilla ice cream. Fill the rest with root beer. If you’re not into root beer or the soda machine is on the fritz, try adding cinnamon and honey to the ice cream instead.
7. Caramel apple
Cover an apple with caramel from the dessert bar. Roll in sprinkles, chocolate, chips, Oreos, or all of the above. If you have the skills to cut the apple neatly with a butter knife, I commend you. Otherwise, stick a fork into the apple and enjoy.
8. Dessert dip
Melt peanut butter and chocolate chips together in the microwave. Add a little milk to make it smoother. Drizzle over ice cream, use as a fruit dip, or pour it on your fries, if you’re into that.
9. Cereal bars
Mix rice chex with peanut butter and caramel. Drizzle chocolate over the top. If you wait a while, it will harden enough to eat in bar form, but you’ll probably end up eating it with a spoon. Either method is tasty.
10. Trail mix
Mix various cereals from the cereal bar, craisins and sunflower seeds from the salad bar, and chocolate chips, Oreos, and sprinkles from the dessert bar. If you happen to have a Ziploc bag with you, package some of the mix and go on a hike, where your creation can be appreciated for its true purpose.
