The front gates to Cokesbury Court Apartments will remain open until repairs are made to the keypad that controlled the gate.
The keypad on Kentucky Avenue was struck Oct. 9 by a car. An OCU police officer responded to the incident.
The student who hit the keypad left the scene, but later emailed housing officials to report the accident, according to the police report.
Housing officials said they are working on the best option to replace the keypad and fix the gate.
“We are working diligently on getting the keypad replaced,” said Liz Harney, associate director for housing and residence life. “The gate has not been broken in several months prior to this.”
Housing officials are waiting on estimates and a timeline for the repairs, Harney said.
Some students are concerned that the gates will remain open.
“They’re just leaving it open, which is annoying,” said Noelle Bradley, dance management junior. “We already have problems with people coming in and now it’s even easier.”
The gate was fixed in November 2014, after remaining open 24/7 following being hit by a car. The accident caused more than $1,000 in damages.
