The Native American Society’s Indian taco sale that was set for Sept. 25 was canceled.
The cancellation occurred because of issues with where the food could be prepared, said Brianna Hillebrand, cell and molecular biology senior and president of NAS.
The Indian tacos are usually prepared in the kitchen of Watson Lounge in Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel, but Hillebrand received complaints about a bug issue in the kitchen. Hillebrand said she was unsure if the bug issue was true, but wanted to cancel the event just in case.
“I didn’t want to serve people Indian tacos then people find out about a bug issue and be upset with us,” Hillebrand said.
Rita Himes, administrative assistant for church relations, said there is no issue to be concerned about in the kitchen.
“Not anymore than usual,” Himes said. “We have treatment every once in a while, but we get treated for bugs three to four times a year.”
There has been no bug issue reported and no work order has been placed for any issue of that nature, Himes said. They also were not notified of the cancellation of the event, Himes said she was told by other people who had heard it was cancelled.
NSA will host another Indian taco sale in October, but where or when isn’t decided yet.
“We will be working on the issue if there is one or will find another place so this won’t be an issue for us in the future,” Hillebrand said.
