April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and the student body elected a new vice president of Student Government Association this month too.
Sexual assault is especially a problem for college-aged students, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. The university hosted a week’s worth of informative events and counseling, but Nicole Wilwert, Alpha Chi Omega president, said universities could do more to raise awareness and put an end to sexual assault.
Vice president was the only position students could vote for in the SGA elections because the rest of the candidates were uncontested in their desired positions. The two candidates running for vice presidency were Nic Rhodes, economics sophomore, and Brandon Elder, acting freshman. Rhodes was elected April 1 and will be sworn in April 14 during SGA Inauguration.
