The university’s visiting artist Mike Wimmer will teach a three-week Maymester course titled “Exploring the Landscape” at various locations throughout the city this spring.
The course is open to all majors and will meet on weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon May 11 through June 1.
The art course will count as a three-hour elective and no prerequisites are required. The course number is ART3803-01 (10674).
An orientation session on campus will be hosted a couple of weeks before the classes begin. The classes will teach primarily with oils, but Wimmer will demonstrate other media like watercolor and acrylics.
The class will meet at various locations throughout the central metro area, where Wimmer will lecture and demonstrate “en plein aire” techniques, which translates as “in the open air.” Class members will then work on their own pieces. One class session will be held in the Wichita Mountains wildlife refuge near Lawton. The final class will meet in the Norick Art Center on campus where students can finish their paintings.
The fee to audit is $450 and the class fee is $150.
