Kassie McCoy is beginning the semester as the new director of development in the office of university advancement and external relations.
McCoy became the new director for development Dec. 1.
The previous director of development was Lora Malone.
Prior to being hired, she was working at a law firm in Claremore, Okla.
She is an alumna from the OCU School of Law, receiving her juris doctorate in 2012.
“I realized that the traditional practice of law was not for me and, when I heard there was a position available at OCU I was excited to come back,” McCoy said. “I have always loved the energy of OCU, and the academic community. I want to help the university move forward because it has such a wonderful impact on the city.”
As director for development, McCoy works primarily on fundraising and marketing for the university to give programs and scholarships endowments. This is done by reaching out to alumni, parents, friends of the university, donors, and trustees.
A special event done by the office of advancement is the biannual phonathon. This is a fundraising special event where students connect with the alumni to generate philanthropic support by accepting donations for the universities educational goals.
“The phonathon was a great opportunity,” said Zack Travers, business administration sophomore.
