The Stars had five wrestlers provide top-three finishes in the Newman Jet Invitational at Fugate Gymnasium on Sunday.
Junior Zach Skates and sophomore Miguel Tovar finished first in their weight classes, while sophomore Ricky McCarty took second, senior Aaron LaFarge and sophomore Adrian Gains placed third.
Skates provided the Stars with wins by major decision, sudden victory and decision at 157 pounds. He took the title with an 8-8 decision over Kakota Head of Ouachita Baptist, Ark.
Tovar finished the day with two sudden victories and two decisions. He captured the 197-pound crown with a 3-2 decision over Zach Anderson of Bethany, Kan.
McCarty dominated his first two matches with two major decisions before falling in the championship at 165. He lost in a 1-0 decision to Chris Watson of Central Oklahoma.
LaFarge won a 7-0 decision in his first match before losing a 2-0 decision to Dustin Reed of Newman, Kan. LaFarge moved to the consolation bracket where he won by fall in 6:20 against Zach D’Amico of Central Oklahoma at 125.
Gains dominated his first match with a 5-0 decision before losing by fall in 1:15 against Nate Rodriguez of Ouachita Baptist to moved to the consolation bracket. Gains won a major decision and fall in 1:26 against Garrett Jones of Fort Hays State, Kan. to take third at 133.
The Stars wrestle next in the Wartburg Desert Duals today in Las Vegas.
