Christmas is a time of celebration and a time to be spent with loved ones. It is also a time to give back to your community and spread the love. The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Oklahoma City has provided a unique way for donators to give to their organization this season.
Many of the women and children who come to the YWCA are seeking shelter from domestic violence. The Oklahoma City shelter is the only certified domestic violence shelter in Oklahoma county, so many victims of domestic abuse come from across the state to stay. When these victims leave their homes, there is often no time to pack any belongings, much less grab the Christmas presents that lay beneath the tree.
The “Santa Shop,” located at the YWCA, consists of donated gifts for both women and children who may need some encouragement this year. Interested donors can visit any local store to shop for their own gifts and bring them to the shelter’s location at 2460 NW 39th St., Oklahoma City.
If you prefer to donate your time, there is a need for volunteers to help wrap gifts. If you would like to become involved or learn more, call 405-948-1770.
