Powerful Prose series presents Holiday Bookfest

OCU will present a “Holiday Bookfest” as part of its Powerful Prose series.

The event will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 at Full Circle Bookstore, located at 1900 Northwest Expressway.

The bookfest will feature authors that have ties to OCU, who will discuss their books and their ties to the Oklahoma City community. Copies of the books will be available for sale, and authors will sign these copies for guests.

The authors include:

Mike Turpen, author of “Turpen Time: The Wit and Wisdom of Mike Turpen.” Turpen is a former Oklahoma attorney general and current co-host of the “Flashpoint” news discussion show on KFOR.
Bishop Steven Charleston, author of “Hope as Old as Fire” and “Could Walking.” Bishop Charleston is a Native American theology professor in the Saint Paul School of Theology at OCU, and has served many roles across the country. He is also the episcopal bishop of Alaska and president and dean of the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge.
Christiane Faris, author of “‘The Nicest Nazi’: Childhood Memories of World War II.” Faris is a modern languages professor emeritus at OCU. The book is about her own experience as a German immigrant to the United States.
Robin Meyers, author of “Morning Sun on a White Piano,” “The Virtue in the Vice,” “Why the Christian Right is Wrong” and “Saving Jesus from the Church.” Meyes is a philosophy professor at OCU, and a senior minister of Mayflower Congregational UCC Church of Oklahoma City. He has been featured as a commentator on National Public Radio and has appeared on Dateline NBC, ABC World News Tonight, and numerous PBS programs.
Mike Wimmer, illustrator of “George,” Theodore,” “Pilgrims Progress” and several children’s books. Wimmer is an artist-in-residence and chairman of the School of Visual Arts at OCU. He painted many of the artworks in the Oklahoma Capitol Building, and he has created illustrations for many national ad campaigns.
