The men’s soccer team beat Texas Wesleyan University 3-2 in double overtime Tuesday.
The win advances the men to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament finals.
The Stars have won eight of their last nine matches.
Senior Forward Ruy Vaz gave the Stars an early lead. In the eight minute, freshman Forward Jeffrey Matthews found Vaz in the middle of the field. Vaz went around Texas Wesleyan University’s defenders before beating the keeper to put the Stars up 1-0.
Texas Wesleyan University came back and scored two goals in two minutes. Texas Wesleyan University’s sophomore Forward Brandon Head found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and netted his ninth goal of the season in the 34th minute. Their freshman Defender Ross McArthur scored just two minutes later, with Head providing his assist. Texas Wesleyan University took the 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Stars came back to tie the score in the 42nd minute. The men had a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Freshman Midfielder Alexandre Tiar took a shot to hit the cross bar. Freshman Forward Logan Stewart was there to collect and scored his first goal of the season. Regulation ended with a 2-2 tie.
Junior Defender Daniel Yoem had a penalty kick, but senior Defender Danny Frid stepped up and buried his six goal of the season in the 102nd minute, advancing the Stars to finals.
Freshman Goalkeeper Vladimir Kalajdic gathered seven saves for the Stars.
OCU goes against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Friday at Stars Field in the SAC Tournament championship.
