On Monday afternoon, October 27th, a young man was seen going door to door at Cokesbury Apartments. He was not a student. He claimed to be accepting donations of books and magazines for the needy. Adriana Napolitano, BA Music/BA Theatre Junior, was sitting in her apartment when he came knocking on her door. “I was unsure of what he wanted. I wanted him to leave but he just kept on talking. It was creepy.” The man was reported to the Cokesbury office and OCUPD was called immediately. This is yet another example of a series of incidents that have occurred on or near campus within the past month. Safety is not something that should be compromised, and is an issue that must be addressed.
Ensuring the safety of students cannot be accomplished by OCUPD alone. Students must look out for each other and use common sense. If you are out late, make sure there is someone walking back to your room with you. Do not open doors for strangers. These are simple practices that just might save you from a dangerous situation. Keep your eyes open and if you see something, say something.
