Campus organizations can begin planning for their Homecoming participation.
Homecoming will take place Nov. 3-8.
The 2014 Homecoming theme was revealed earlier this month. The theme, which organizations must follow in their planning is, “A Great Big Adventure.”
The theme was chosen by the Homecoming executive committee, led by Mackenzie Kelly, entertainment business senior. The committee has been meeting since last semester to finalize the planning for the annual event.
Kelly was elected last semester as Homecoming commissioner. She is in charge of choosing the theme, making sure the organizations follow the rules, and designing the events to welcome alumni back to campus.
“Homecoming brings together the campus, even though it is a competition,” Kelly said.
Homecoming is designed to welcome alumni back to campus with a series of events based on school spirit and pride.
Organizations follow the theme given by the committee in all their planning and preparation for the events, including window painting, lip sync and spirit structure.
Almost all of these events, which took place last year, will occur again this year.
Kelly said the only change in activities is a new Uptown 23rd event. This will replace the Homecoming game in required events, which was canceled due to team scheduling conflicts.
Faculty and alumni are encouraged to get involved as Homecoming approaches.
Organizations have been encouraged to tell members to prioritize during Homecoming. Students in the past have complained about late nights and hard work on Homecoming activities during regular school functions, Kelly said. Faculty have expressed concern about the matter.
Kelly said students should take time to get school work done, as well as enjoy Homecoming with their professors.
“Faculty loves Homecoming,” Kelly said. “I hope they come and participate with us as we celebrate the alumni.”
Tanner Bradshaw, acting senior, said he looks forward to spending more time with the community during Homecoming.
“Homecoming is great because it always brings the OCU community together for a short time,” Bradshaw said. “It showcases the amazing range of talents our random batch of cookies contains.”
Rosters were due to the Homecoming committee last week.
