Three members of the OCU community were honored at the Journal Record’s 34th annual Woman of the Year event on Oct. 2.
Cathy Busey, Elizabeth Kerr, and Keri Coleman Norris were all recognized for their contributions to the Oklahoma City Community at the gala.
Busey, who is a benefactor of many programs at OCU including the El Sistema Oklahoma after-school music program, is currently the executive vice president of the Delaware Resource Group.
Kerr, who is an alumna of the OCU School of Law, currently serves as a legal counsel for the University of Central Oklahoma. Kerr was also honored with inclusion into the Circle of Excellence – an honor reserved for those being selected for The Journal Record’s 50 Making a Difference for the third time.
Coleman Norris, also an alumna of the School of Law, currently serves on the board of the school and is also a general counsel for LegalShield, which is committed to providing quality affordable legal service.
The gala celebrates the 50 Making a Difference Program, which is dedicated to honoring accomplished women across the state who have provided leadership in the business world and dedicated themselves to community service. The Woman of the Year award itself goes to one woman who has had a profound influence in the business community during the year. The 2014 award went to Ann Hargis, the first lady of Oklahoma State University. Hargis was recognized for her championing of wellness and health for women.
Joni Brooks, president and publisher of The Journal Record, said the event was an important way to recognize powerful women in the Oklahoma City community.
“The 50 Making a Difference program is celebrating 34 years; we are so proud to have had the opportunity to honor accomplished women across the state who have made such tremendous impacts in the business world,” Brooks said in an article about the event.
The list of all 50 honorees and photos from the gala can be found on the Woman of the Year website.
