Students, faculty and staff can explore 50 vendors from the area during the first Benefits and Wellness Expo.
The expo is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Oct. 15 in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
In the past, there has been a benefits fair for faculty and staff members, so they can ask questions and learn more information about the benefits the university offers. There has been a separate wellness fair that faculty and students could attend to learn about how making healthier choices can effect one’s life.
“In college you’re fairly healthy. Concerns about health or getting a disease are not at the top of your priority list,” said Valerie Robinson, benefits and wellness specialist for OCU. “It is our hope that students go and find out ways to live a healthy lifestyle.”
Started about 14 years ago, the fairs were a way to help the campus community make choices for a healthier lifestyle.
Students, faculty and staff will be able to interact with vendors from on and off campus at the expo. Off campus vendors such as Jamba Juice, Whole Foods Market, Gold’s Gym, Riversport, Deaconess Hospital, and others will be at the expo.
“This could be a good thing,” said Jacob Overling, business administration junior. “We are a fairly healthy campus, I believe, but it doesn’t hurt to know what else is around here to help us stay healthy.”
Student Health Services also will be available for information and flu shots. Students with the student health plan can receive the flu shot or flu mist for free.
If students have an outside health insurance plan, they can receive the shot for $20 or the flu mist $30. Anyone who wants a flu shot or mist must have their insurance verification on hand.
“I hope everyone is inspired and motivation to make healthy choices,” Robinson said. “I also hope they will become more aware of what is out there and how to stay healthy.”
