Welcome to the first edition of “On the Town,” a place to let you know what’s going on off-campus this weekend. The Oklahoma City community is redolent with events, festivals, and cultural opportunities, and the Student Publications staff encourages students to get off campus and get out on the town.
Saturday, Sept. 27
- Plaza Festival–12:00 p.m-10:00 p.m, 1700 block NW 16th St. : Come out to the Plaza District for food trucks, live music, and over 40 booths for local artists and designers. The festival celebrates the unique cultural landscape of Oklahoma City, and the thriving businesses of the Plaza District. FREE to enter. Parking $5-$10
- Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park presents MACBETH–8:00 p.m. Myriad Botanical Gardens Water Stage: See a Shakespearean classic in one of the most beautiful settings OKC has to offer. This show features many OCU students and faculty members. Tickets are$10 for students.
- ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships–all day Saturday, Devon Boathouse: Come watch the best canoers in the world compete on the Oklahoma River. This is the first time the event has been held in Oklahoma, and it draws competitors from all over the world. The event is FREE to watch.
- OKC Jazz Fest–all weekend, Bricktown Entertainment District: Head down to Bricktown to watch some of the best live jazz music in Oklahoma. The festival will feature performers from the OKC Philharmonic, OKC Jazz Ensemble, and more. One day passes are $15. Visit http://okcjazzfest.com/about/ for more information.
Sunday, Sept. 28
- Sunday Funday at Uptown 23rd–10:00 a.m. to close, 23rd St.: Sunday Funday takes place on the last Sunday of each month, as a community outreach by the businesses of Uptown 23rd. Enjoy a brunch with live music at Pizza23, taco truck rides at Big Truck Tacos, and other complimentary gifts and events up and down the street. FREE to enter.
- Sunday Twilight Concert Series: Gregory Jerome–7:00 p.m-9:00 p.m., Myriad Botanical Gardens Lawn: The Arts Council produces this concert series each Sunday. The event is FREE and open to the public.
