Tyrone Van Aswegen, OCU alum and former member of the Men’s Golf team, has earned his second PGA Tour card.
Van Awsegen tied for 11th place in the Web.com Tour Championship last Sunday. He finished at 29th place in Web.com’s ranking of the top 50 golfers who received their PGA Tour exemptions.
Kyle Blaser, OCU golf coach, said during a press release that the current team follows Van Aswegen closely.
“His endeavors motivate my guys to reach heights maybe they didn’t think they could reach,” Blaser said. “He shows how successful they could be coming out of OCU like he has. OCU men’s golf couldn’t ask for a better ambassador for the program.”
During the 2013-2014 PGA Tour, Van Swegen scored a 71.07 stroke average, and earned a total of $454,856.
Blaser said he believes the OCU alum will have an even stronger showing this year.
“I think he has a lot of momentum heading into this next year,” Blaser said. “He is a seasoned veteran, and I think he’ll have a great year next year. His confidence has to be extremely high.”
Van Aswegen won the 2002 NAIA individual championship while attending OCU. During his career, he had a 72.88 stroke average and won seven victories as a Star. He earned three All-American nods. He also led OCU to four national titles while playing on the team, in 2000-2004.
