The OCU Stars women’s volleyball team emerged undefeated at the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational over Labor Day Weekend.
The Stars first defeated Haskall Indian Nations University on Saturday afternoon, scoring 25-15, 25-19, 25-16. The win provided Kyle Steele with his first victory as head coach of the team.
Later Saturday evening, the Stars won against Tabor College with a score of 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-15.
“It was a good start for us to have to climb some mental hurdles, and we took steps in finding our team identity,” Steele said in a press release. “We struggled to control the ball at times, but when we limited our unforced errors, we looked pretty good. Regardless, it’s good to be 2-0 at the end of the day.”
On Sunday, the team faced off against Briar Cliff University, scoring 27-29, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22. Later Sunday afternoon, the Stars scored their final win against Friends University of Central Kansas with a final score of 25-22, 25-21, 25-11.
The wins leave the team undefeated this season, ranking 4-0.
Steele said it was a positive experience for his team, and a good start to the season.
“It was pleasing for me to watch us win four matches in four different ways,” Steele said in a press release. “We just let the games come to us and took what was available. Players stepped up when we needed them to. I had to go deep into the bench at times to sustain our level of play, so it is a positive when I know I can rely on everyone to come in and make plays.”
The OCU Stars women’s volleyball team’s next match will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Evangel Tournament in Springfield, MO.
