Many students at OCU have to learn to balance schoolwork and extracurricular activities.
This semester, Sean McDivitt, second year law student, balanced law school and appropriations chairman of Student Senate.
McDivitt said it has been difficult balancing law school with Student Senate responsibilities, but he enjoys it.
“My best friends became my iPad, e-mail and Facebook,” McDivitt said. “I like to be involved and I think that’s what kept me going.
“Law school is a huge challenge and you have to work really, really, really hard if you want to do well.”
Next semester he will be passing off his duties as appropriations chairman.
“I’m excited most about watching the new committee chairs take over next semester,” he said.
Law school and Student Senate have both helped prepare McDivitt for life after law school.
“Student Senate has helped me to be able to manage tasks better, especially if I’m working with other people,” McDivitt said.
Students within the law school have a good relationship with one another, he said.
“OCU Law is very close-knit,” McDivitt said. “Not many people realize how cutthroat law school can be, but the law students are actually pretty close.”
McDivitt is looking forward to his plans after graduation from law school.
“UI’m applying for the Air Force JAG program,” McDivitt said. “We’ll see where it goes.”
