Registrar Charlie Monnot leads a double life.
Actually, as a local theater performer, he leads multiple lives when he’s not in his office in Clara E. Jones Administration Building.
Monnot graduated from OCU in 1991 with a degree in musical theater.
During his time at OCU, he worked in the costume shop as the bookkeeper.
In his final year at OCU, he was “Baby John” in West Side Story, “Pedant” in Taming of the Shrew, and a member of the “Porter Trio” in Annie Get Your Gun.
Although his major roles didn’t come until after graduation, Monnot always has been interested in theater.
He said he has known since kindergarten, when he was a prince in the school play, that theater interested him.
“It’s what I do, and it’s who I am,” Monnot said.
Monnot recently performed in several community theater shows in Oklahoma City and the surrounding area, such as The Full Monty with the Center Theater, Kiss Me, Kate, with Summerstock Productions in Edmond, and Parade with Edmond Theater.
In Parade, Monnot was cast in one of his dream roles of “Leo Frank.”
The musical is based on the true story of Frank, a Jewish factory owner convicted and lynched in 1915 for a murder he may not have committed.
“I like to do roles that are similar to myself – the nerdy guy that tries hard,” Monnot said.
While theater is not his career, Monnot said he plans to continue to be involved with theater for the rest of his life.
“I want to get into the old man roles someday,” Monnot said.
Monnot’s next performance will be in Lyric Theater of Oklahoma’s production of A Christmas Carol as a member of the ensemble.
The show runs Nov. 29 through Dec. 28. Tickets are $40 and can be bought on the theater’s website at lyrictheatreokc.com.
