Art LeFrancois, law professor continues OCU’s series of book discussions this month.
His presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m. today at Full Circle Bookstore, 1900 N.W. Expressway. The event is free and open to the public.
“Powerful Prose: Great Ideas and the Literature that Advances Them” started this year at Full Circle Bookstore.
OCU professors review books and discuss how their ideas relate to current events. There are question-and-answer sessions that allow audience members to express their opinions.
Professor Art LeFrancois will discuss Manifest Injustice: The True Story of a Convicted Murderer and the Lawyers Who Fought for his Freedom by Barry Seigel.
The book investigates the trial of Bill Macumber, who was sentenced to a 38-year jail term for a double homicide he may not have committed.
“There’s no other bookstore like it,” said President Robert Henry. “It is a place that lends itself to ideas and discussions about ideas.”
The first event was Sept. 26 with President Henry’s discussion of Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson. Lance Marsh, artistic director of TheatreOCU, joined him with a portrayal of Benjamin Franklin.
Henry spoke about S.C. Gwynne’s Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History at his last discussion on Oct. 24.
He plans to host Powerful Prose discussions every month with different speakers.
“I wanted to show off what our folks can do. We have some absolutely wonderful teachers here,” Henry said.
These discussions will benefit students by allowing them to hear other people’s perspectives said Jeff Sherwood, theater design and production senior.
“It’s a neat opportunity to be able to learn from other people in the community besides just the students in my classes,” Sherwood said.
