Rehearsals Grill, located on the corner of North Virginia Avenue and 23rd Street, is open to the public.
The new restaurant, which opened Oct. 28., is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
“Everything’s been a really positive review so far,” said Ben Strealy, executive chef and general manager of Rehearsals.
All of the menu items at Rehearsals are made in-house, and nothing costs more than $9.
“We like to take classic or comfort dishes, things that people know, and just kind of elevate them,” Strealy said.
Prior to working at Rehearsals, Strealy was the food and beverage manager at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas.
“I lived in San Antonio for 3 years, and I adopted some taco recipes to get a more authentic street-taco feel,” Strealy said. “The beef tacos have been a huge seller.”
Strealy recommends the Mediterranean Chicken Salad. The dish includes feta cheese, Mediterranean vegetables, fried pita, and a red wine vinaigrette.
“It’s a really casual place, but we take the food very seriously,” Strealy said.
Rehearsals plans to host a grand opening celebration at the end of November.
“Right now, we’re just trying to get open,” Strealy said.
Ryan Garner, front of the house supervisor, said the restaurant has had a balance of customers from OCU and the general public.
“Everyone seems to enjoy it,” Garner said.
Garner’s favorite item on the menu is the seared fish tacos.
“One thing you’ll find is the presentation of the food – for the value, it’s really awesome,” Garner said. “It’s a great deal.”
Perks for students are in the works. The restaurant also plans to host open mic nights regularly.
“Check us out,” Garner said. “You will be happy; you will come back.”
